ACTION DIRECTE. Il n’y a pas que l’action par laquelle le Syndicalisme et certaines écoles révolutionnaires pensent faire aboutir leurs revendications qu’on puisse qualifier d’action directe. Il y a encore — et parallèlement à cette forme collective de l’Action directe — la forme individuelle de celle-ci. Celle-ci a pour terrain l’homme lui-même. Elle consiste dans l’évolution intérieure de l’individu, dans la violence qu’il exerce sur lui-même, dans son effort pour se surmonter, s’embellir et devenir meilleur, dans la guerre qu’il livre à ses passions, dans la victoire qu’il remporte chaque jour sur la laideur. Les résultats de cette Action directe sont positifs. L’art, la pensée, les livres aident l’individu à se découvrir ; ils le révèlent à lui-même. DIRECT ACTION. It is not only the action by which Syndicalism and certain revolutionary schools think to successfully achieve their demands that we can consider direct action. There is also — and parallel to that collective form of Direct Action — its individual form. That form has the individuals themselves for terrain. It consists of the internal evolution of individuals, of the violence that they exert upon themselves, of their efforts to master, embellish and better themselves, of the war that they make on their passions, of the victories that they achieve each day over ugliness. The results of that Direct Action are positive. Art, thought and books help individuals to discover themselves; they reveal them to theemselves.
